Monks Finish Fifth in Queenan Memorial Tournament

CASCO, ME – University of New England captured their second consecutive tournament crown with a 320 team score in the John Queenan Memorial Tournament at Point Sebago Golf Resort Tuesday.

For the second event in a row Husson University, which lost to UNE by one stroke with a 321 team card today, was nipped by the Nor'easters in golf action. The Eagles were bested by UNE, 638-640, in the State of Maine Championship Tournament over the weekend. Prior to this afternoon, Husson had won five consecutive John Queenan Memorial titles.

Husson's Chris Hamel '12 (Waterville, ME), who won the Queenan crown with a 74 as a freshman in 2008, collected medalist honors with a 75, while Saint Joseph's freshman Kevin Richardson (Coventry, CT) finished close behind with a 77 on the day. Farmington's Nick Waltz '12 (Damariscotta, ME) and UNE freshmen Andrew Emery (Winthrop, ME) and Tyler Moody (Augusta, ME) all carded a 78 in the annual tournament.

University of Maine-Farmington placed third among the eight teams with a 327 effort, while Southern Maine (328), Saint Joseph's (335), Emmanuel (366), Daniel Webster (384) and University of Maine-Machias (NC) rounded out the field.

For St. Joe's, Jeffrey Hilton '13 (Limington, ME) carded an 81, Ebb Walton '12 (Blue Hill, ME) shot an 88, Michael Patrick '11 (Wells, ME) notched an 89, and Jake Brown '13 (Lewiston, ME) scored a 90.

For the Monks, Richardson's 77 card is the lowest round since Andy LeConte '09 posted a 73 in the second round of the Husson Invitational at the Penobscot Valley Country Club on October 6th, 2008.

Saint Joseph's will swing back into action Sunday, September 26th in the two-day Southern Maine Fall Classic. Tee-time is scheduled for 12:00 PM.
