PROVIDENCE, RI - Saint Joseph's junior Ebb Walton (Blue Hill, ME) sits atop the 2010 Great Northeast Athletic Conference Golf Championship leaderboard after the first day of action with a 78 card. The Monks head into the second day in fifth place with a 346 team score.
Walton shot a 39 in both rounds at the par 72 Triggs Memorial Golf Course on Saturday and currently holds a one stroke lead over a trio of golfers who carded a 79 on the first day. UMass-Dartmouth's Matt Connolly, Johnson & Wales' Steve LeDonne and Rhode Island College's Kyle Harper sit in a tie for second and JWU's Joe Connor rounds out the top five golfers with an 80 card over the first 18 holes.
UMass-Dartmouth leads the field of seven GNAC institutions with a 332 on the 6522-yard course, while Johnson & Wales is just one stroke behind with a 333. Rhode Island College heads into the final day with a 339 team card.
The second and final round of the GNAC Championship will take place on Sunday, October 31st starting at 10:00 a.m. The winner will receive the conference's automatic bid to the 2011 NCAA Division III Championship.
