Golf Placed Fourth at GNAC's, Richardson Named Top Rookie

PROVIDENCE, RI - Saint Joseph's placed fourth with a 688 team card in the 2010 Great Northeast Athletic Conference Golf Championship, which was held at Triggs Memorial Golf Course over the weekend. Freshman Kevin Richardson (Coventry, CT) placed fourth individually with a 36-hole score of 162 and earned GNAC Rookie of the Year and All-Conference honors for his play.

Richardson shaved eight strokes off his Saturday score with a 77 card over the final 18 holes of the annual tournament. As the freshman with the best final score, Richardson earned top rookie accolades and collected All-GNAC honors - just the third SJC golfer to do so - as one of the top five finishers. Chris Deroche '07 and Francois Renaud '08 earned All-Conference honors in 2006 and 2007, respectively.

Ebb Walton '12 (Blue Hill, ME), the top golfer with a 78 after the first 18 holes, had a rough day with a 93 on day two and finished tied for 13th overall with a 171 score. Michael Patrick '11 (Wells, ME) placed 19th with a 174 (86-88).

GNAC Release:

Providence, R.I. – The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth captured the 2010 Great Northeast Athletic Conference Championship, held at Triggs Memorial Golf Course this weekend.  The Corsairs took first place with a team score of 652 while Johnson & Wales shot a 668 to finish in second place.  Host Rhode Island College rounded out the top three, shooting a 674 over the par 72 course that measures 6,522 yards.
 
Johnson & Wales sophomore Joe Connor (Lakeville, Mass.) was named the GNAC Player of the Year after earning medalist honors, shooting a two-round total of 156 while UMass Dartmouth's Matt Connolly was in second place with a 157.  Other all-conference selections include Rhode Island College's Kyle Harper, St. Joseph's of Maine's Kevin Richardson and George Gillmore and Nick Jagoe from UMass Dartmouth.  Richardson was named the conference's top rookie.

UMass Dartmouth receives the conference's automatic bid to the 2011 NCAA Division III Championship in Greensboro, North Carolina.
