Husson Tops Field at 10th Annual Queenan Tournament

CASCO, ME – Husson University claimed top team honors for the seventh time in the last eight years with an aggregate score of 312 in the 10th Annual John Queenan Memorial Tournament at Point Sebago Golf Resort on Tuesday.

All five Eagles' golfers placed in the top six individually, including junior Bill Hutchins (Hampden, Maine) who collected medalist honors after posting a 74 card during windy and, later, rainy conditions. Hutchins, the most recent North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Golfer of the Week honoree, is the seventh Husson linker to win the St. Joe's-hosted event as the Eagles have placed the top individual in eight of the 10 Queenan tournaments.

Southern Maine finished in a distant second with a 342 team card, Maine-Farmington was third with a 345, and Saint Joseph's capped the day in fourth place with a 357 score. University of New England (362) and Daniel Webster College (394) also competed in the tourney.

Individually, Husson freshman Porter Gervais (New Limerick, Maine) was the runner-up with a 78 and Maine-Farmington senior Orion Cochrane (Greenville, Maine) shot a 79 to place third while Eagles' golfers Lance Bernier (Lincoln, Maine) and Greg Pike (Promfret, Conn.) both produced an 80 card to finish in a tie for fourth.

For St. Joe's, junior Kevin Richardson (Coventry, Conn.) shot an 82 to finish in a tie for sixth while seniors Nick Zwald (Campton, N.H.) and Sean Drake (Lebanon, N.H.) tied for 11th with 90 cards. Freshman Ryan Berard (Millville, Mass.) (95) and junior Colin Finn (North Easton, Mass.) (105) also participated for Saint Joseph's.

Hosted annually be St. Joe's, the tournament is named in memory of John Queenan, a 2003 graduate of Bow High School who died tragically in an automobile accident just prior to the beginning of his freshman year at Saint Joseph's.

St. Joe's returns to the links this weekend when the team participates in the 2012 State of Maine Championship at the Val Halla Golf Course in Cumberland. Tee-time is slates for 10:00 AM on both Saturday and Sunday.
