Monks Finish Fifth at Blazer Invitational

BELCHERTOWN, Mass. – Saint Joseph's College placed fifth with a 654 (325-329) team card in the Elms College Blazer Invitational on Saturday and Sunday.

Tufts University cruised to the team win with a 593 (291-302) composite score, well ahead of runner-up Amherst College, which posted a 620 (305-315) card. Westfield State (621, 316-305), Springfield College (649, 327-322) and Saint Joseph's rounded out the top five teams.

Roger Williams (668), Suffolk University (671), Gordon College (679), SUNY Old Westbury (714), Elms College (722), Worcester State (731), Dean College (743), Emmanuel College (744), and MCLA (789) also competed in the event.

Tufts placed the top three individuals in the 36-hole tournament, as Jack Meehan and Travis Clauson tied atop the field with 146 (+4) cards and Mac Bredahl finished third with a 148 score. Westfield State's J.J. Newcombe was fourth (152) and Amherst's Steven Chen and Gordon's Karsten Lusk tied for fifth with 153 cards.

FOR THE MONKS:

  • Freshman Cade Buckley (Peabody, Mass.) tied for 18th with a 158 (73-85) card
  • Junior Trevor Flanagan (Monmouth, Maine) was 22nd with a 162 (81-81) score
  • Senior Jacob Laplume (Old Orchard Beach, Maine) shot a 163 (86-77) and tied for 23rd
  • Freshman Drew Mathieu (Windham, Maine) finished tied for 35th (171, 85-86)
  • Junior Sean McDonough (Concord, N.H.) was 42nd (177, 89-88)
