Track & Field Competes in USM Open

GORHAM, Maine – The Saint Joseph's College track & field program started the New Year with an appearance in the University of Southern Maine Open on Saturday afternoon. The meet was a non-scoring event.

Several team records were broken on the men's side, including a pair by sophomore Calvin Field (Windham, Maine), who set new program bests by placing fourth in the high jump (1.83m) and seventh in the long jump (5.86m).

Sophomore Nick Shuckrow (Winslow, Maine) and freshman Lucas Fisher (Strafford, N.H.) both broke the 5000-Meter record, with Shuckrow topping the field with a 16:30.25 effort and Fisher posting a runner-up time (17:05.96).

Senior Faisal Abdillahi (Lewiston, Maine) placed third in the 200-Meter (24.82) and 400-Meter (52.53) events while junior Billy Brooks (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) was the runner-up in the weight throw (8.71m) and posted third-place finishes in the 600-Meter (1:37.55) and shot put (9.64m) events.

On the women's side, senior Heather Eaton (Lincolnville, Maine) won the 3000-Meter (11:04.90) and finished as the runner-up in the 1-Mile (5:37.23) while sophomore Kristina Schelling(Pelham, N.H.) placed third in the 400-Meter (1:13.09).

Senior Amber Dostie (Standish, Maine) finished fourth in the 1000-Meter (3:22.52) and freshman Kyrie Harnden (Wilton, Maine) turned in a fourth-place effort in the 400-Meter (1:15.14) event.

Saint Joseph's returns to the track next Saturday at Bates College.
