Monks Attack Sharks, Fall to Jays

WEST HARTFORD, CT - Saint Joseph's (9-19, 2-8 GNAC) defeated conference foe Simmons College (11-9, 4-4) in the second contest of a tri-match on Saturday afternoon. Jordan Pelczar '12 (Meredith, NH) registered 11 digs, six kills and five aces in the SJC victory. St. Joe's lost to host Saint Joseph (CT), 3-0, in the nightcap match. Samantha Varrell '12 (Portsmouth, NH) had 11 assists in the GNAC loss.

In the 3-1 (25-17, 29.27, 20-25, 25-18) victory over Simmons, Varrell posted 15 assists, nine digs and four service aces and Mary Hoyt '11 (Rochester, NH) recorded 11 digs, six kills and three aces. Katie Boccanelli '12 (Cottonwood, AL) had seven kills and Amanda Ruel '09 (Biddeford, ME) added six digs in the team's second conference victory of the season.

For Simmons, Meaghan Flynn notched a double-double effort with 15 kills and 14 digs.

Kiersten Carbone '12 (North Reading, MA) blasted seven kills for the Lady Monks in the shutout loss (25-22, 25-13, 25-19) to Saint Joseph (CT). Hoyt added five kills and four digs while Boccanelli chipped in with six kills in the defeat.

Saint Joseph's will travel to Biddeford, ME on Tuesday October 28th to take on the University of New England at 6:00 PM.
