Monks Top Blue Jays, Fall to Trailblazers

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – Saint Joseph's College (12-14, 8-5 GNAC) split a women's volleyball tri-match at the University of Saint Joseph (6-18, 5-7 GNAC) on Saturday. The Monks opened with a 3-1 (25-20, 25-17, 25-27, 25-15) Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) win over the host Blue Jays and capped the day with a hard fought 3-1 (27-25, 23-25, 25-22, 25-20) setback at the hands of MCLA (17-3, 5-1 MASCAC).

The loss to MCLA snapped the Monks' five match winning streak, the team's longest since the 2017 squad won five in a row under the watch of Head Coach Alexis Michal.

TEAM STATS:

Saint Joseph's held the lead in kills (53-36), attack percentage (.230 / .125), assists (41-29), service aces (13-8), digs (60-58), and total blocks (5-4) in the GNAC victory.

LEADERS – SAINT JOSEPH'S:

  • Sophomore Nadia Sixto (Chattanooga, Tenn.) delivered 11 kills and three block assists
  • Sophomore Victoria Briones (El Paso, Texas) posted nine kills, four aces, and 17 digs
  • Freshman Larisa Comolli (Nashua, N.H.) notched 10 kills on 13 attempts with a .615 attack rate and three block assists
  • Junior Maggie Sylvester (Barrington, N.H.) registered nine kills and 11 digs
  • Junior Hanna Webster (Alvin, Texas) added seven kills, two digs, and a pair of block assists
  • Senior Abby Jerome (Barrington, N.H.) contributed 16 digs and three aces
  • Senior Kailyn Chamberlin (Milford, N.H.) dealt 28 assists with two aces and nine digs
  • Senior Caitlin Quinn (Dover, N.H.) chipped in with three kills and nine digs

LEADERS – UNIV. OF SAINT JOSEPH:

  • Shannon Carey paced the hosts with 11 kills and added 12 digs and three block assists
  • Victoria Adler netted six kills and three total blocks
  • Victoria Isokpehi put up six kills with a .455 attack percentage
  • Nicole Albert added 13 assists, three aces, and five digs
  • Fernanda Ayala Rodriguez notched 22 digs
  • Alexandra Long contributed with 13 assists and three digs

MCLA def. SJC, 3-1

TEAM STATS:

Saint Joseph's held the lead in kills (55-49), assists (50-40), and total blocks (8-2) while MCLA led in hitting percentage (.159 / .132) and digs (81-80). Both teams posted nine service aces in the non-conference match.

  • Sixto recorded 10 kills, three digs, and five block assists
  • Sylvester posted 10 kills, seven digs, and three block assists
  • Webster notched nine kills, two aces, eight digs, and three block assists
  • Briones tallied seven kills, two aces, and 17 digs
  • Jerome belted five aces with 22 digs
  • Chamberlin netted three kills, 35 assists, and eight digs
  • Quinn delivered 11 assists
  • Freshman Sabrina Arcilla (Rivervale, N.J.) added 10 digs

  • Anais Badio put up 14 kills on 38 attempts with four aces and four digs
  • Audrey Melson notched 10 kills on 36 bids
  • Elizabeth Brown contributed with eight kills and 17 digs
  • Chloe Garber added seven kills, 17 digs, and two block assists
  • Shannon O'Brien delivered 24 assists with six kills
  • Ellie Walter-Goodspeed picked up a match-high 23 digs
