Monks Fall to Bobcats on Senior Night

STANDISH, Maine – Bates College (7-14) defeated Saint Joseph's College (12-15), 3-0 (25-18, 25-20, 25-23), in a non-conference women's volleyball match on Mike McDevitt Court at the Harold Alfond Center on Wednesday evening.

SENIOR MOMENT:

Before the start of the match the SJC volleyball program held a brief ceremony to honor the team's four seniors: Sam Holland (Gilmanton, N.H.), Abby Jerome (Barrington, N.H.), Caitlin Quinn (Dover, N.H.), and Kailyn Chamberlin (Milford, N.H.). All four players are four-year team members and have helped the Monks win 42 matches – including 25 conference tilts - with three GNAC Tournament appearances (and the fourth coming up next week) during their time at Saint Joseph's.

TEAM STATS:

The Bobcats held the lead in kills (33-28), attack percentage (.127 / .039), and assists (31-27) while the Monks notched a 6-1 lead in blocks and both squads picked up 70 digs on the evening.

LEADERS – SAINT JOSEPH'S:

  • Sophomore Victoria Briones (El Paso, Texas) recorded six kills and eight digs
  • Freshman Larisa Comolli (Nashua, N.H.) added five kills and four total blocks
  • Junior Maggie Sylvester (Barrington, N.H.) contributed five kills, six digs, and a pair of total blocks
  • Junior Hanna Webster (Alvin, Texas) posted three kills, two aces, and five digs
  • Jerome registered a match-high 23 digs with two aces
  • Holland chipped in with 14 digs
  • Chamberlin tacked on two kills, 15 assists, a service ace, and three digs
  • Quinn added eight assists and six digs

LEADERS – BATES:

  • Freshman Sofia Castiglioni (Oakland, Calif.) boasted 12 kills with a .364 hitting rate
  • Junior Chrissy Chu (Old Tappan, N.J.) notched a double-double with 28 assists and 11 digs
  • Sophomore Ellie Asada (Honolulu, Hawaii) added 22 digs
  • Sophomore Ami Evans (Honolulu, Hawaii) delivered five kills and 11 digs
  • Junior Katie Kortekaas (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) chipped in with six kills on 25 attempts

NEXT!

Saint Joseph's closes out the regular season on Saturday with a conference tri-match in Boston versus Mitchell College (12:00 PM) and host Emmanuel College (2:00 PM).
