Monks Reject Pride, 3-1

WESTON, MA – Saint Joseph's improved to 11-6 overall with a 3-1 victory against non-conference foe Regis College on Friday evening. Sarah Hawkes '13 (Pownal, ME) recorded a double-double with 10 kills and 10 digs in the triumph.

The Monks broke out of the gates with convincing 25-14 and 25-12 wins before dropping the third set by a 25-21 score. The Royal Blue rebounded with a 25-17 effort in the fourth set to collect the 3-1 result. Regis falls to 5-13 overall with the loss.

Kiah Begley '13 (Berwick, ME/Saint Thomas Aquinas) also registered a double-dip effort with 27 assists and 10 digs, while Brooke Dyer '14 (Lebanon, ME/Saint Thomas Aquinas) netted eight kills, four aces and seven digs.

Sarah Coffey '14 (Hanover, MA) put up seven kills, seven digs and three service aces and Alyssa Grigware '13 (Biddeford, ME) posted nine digs, five kills and a match-high five aces for the Monks. Caitlin Cleary '13 (Scarborough, ME) added 13 digs and Devon Masse '14 (Hudson, NH) contributed with seven kills in the conquest.

For Regis, Meghan McCarty blasted a match-high 13 kills, Randi Garrity added 28 assists, and Sarah Gold notched 18 digs. All three individual totals ranked as match-highs in a losing effort.

St. Joe's held advantages in kills (40-34), attack percentage (.140-.059), assists (37-32), aces (13-3) and digs (67-57).

Saint Joseph's will face off against GNAC rival St. Joseph's (Conn.) in West Hartford, CT at 1:00 PM.
