Monks Cruise Past Anchorwomen, 3-0

STANDISH, ME – Saint Joseph's (7-1) toppled Rhode Island College (0-11), 3-0, in a non-conference volleyball match at the Harold Alfond Center on Saturday afternoon.

The Monks registered 16 service aces and took advantage of 24 Rhode Island College attack errors en route to posting 25-10, 25-16 and 25-16 in what was the team's fifth shutout victory of the season. Sophomore Felicia Wachowiak (Milton, N.H.) paced the Royal Blue with seven kills and four block solos while sophomore Abbie McPhee (Epping, N.H.) and freshman Shadai Gosselin (Somersworth, N.H.) boasted four aces apiece in the one-sided triumph.

Freshman setter Mariah Hebert (Biddeford, Maine) added 14 assists and three aces and senior libero Erica Russi (Debary, Fla.) tallied nine digs for the hosts.

The Anchorwomen were led offensively by sophomore Adriana Ambari (Beacon Falls, Conn.), who put up seven kills, and sophomore Michelle Malboeuf (Cumberland, R.I.) chipped in with four kills in a losing effort. Sophomore setter Emma Cajthaml (El Cajon, Calif.) added eight assists and five digs and senior Amanda Cabral (Riverside, R.I.) contributed eight digs for the visitors.

With the win, Saint Joseph's improves to 2-5 versus Rhode Island College since the start of the 1991 campaign. The Anchorwomen defeated the Monks, 3-0, last fall and had not suffered a loss at the hands of the Royal Blue since the 1995 season.

Saint Joseph's will play at University of New England on Monday evening at 6:30 PM while RIC is set to host Lasell College on Tuesday at 6:00 PM.
