Wachowiak Collects First Team All-GNAC Honors

Wachowiak Collects First Team All-GNAC Honors

STANDISH, ME – The 2013 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Women's Volleyball All-Conference accolades have been announced and Saint Joseph's College sophomore Felicia Wachowiak (Milton, N.H.) has earned First Team honors.

Wachowiak, a Second Team selection as a freshman, becomes the second Saint Joseph's player to collect First Team acclaim after recording 326 kills with a .292 attack percentage and 104 total blocks during the 2013 campaign. She led the conference in block solos (67) and total blocks and ranked third in kills, kills per set (3.11) and attack rate as a sophomore.

As a second-year starter, Wachowiak shattered the Monks' single-season records for total blocks, block solos and blocks per set (0.96) and posted the second-most kills in program history.

Through a pair of collegiate campaigns, Wachowiak has posted more kills (616) and total blocks (199) than any Saint Joseph's player has ever recorded in their first two seasons.

Former teammate Sarah Hawkes '13, who collected First Team All-GNAC honors last fall, was the first Saint Joseph's volleyball player to be listed on the first team.

Along with the All-Conference honors, the GNAC also awards those who best represent the pillars of sportsmanship. Each season, every team is asked to select a player for their squad to represent the program on the GNAC All-Sportsmanship Team and this fall, the Monks have selected sophomore Alli Hollander (Thermal, Calif.) to stand for the SJC women's volleyball team.

Saint Joseph's capped the 2013 season with a 19-12 overall record and a 7-4 mark in GNAC play under the watch of fourth-year Head Coach Yamile Nolan. The Monks earned the #4 seed in the conference tourney and hosted #5 Simmons College in a GNAC Tournament quarterfinal match on November 5th. Hosting a postseason match for the second time in as many seasons, the Monks suffered a hard-fought 3-2 loss at the hands of the Sharks, a setback that signaled the end of the 2013 campaign.
