Wachowiak Tabbed as GNAC Offensive Player of the Week

STANDISH, Maine – Saint Joseph's College junior Felicia Wachowiak (Milton, N.H.) has been selected as the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Women's Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week, as announced by the conference office earlier this afternoon.

Wachowiak averaged 4.17 kills, 1.83 digs and 1.33 blocks per set in a 2-1 week for Saint Joseph's and enjoyed a career day with 41 kills and 12 block solos combined in a GNAC tri-match split with Lasell and Anna Maria on Saturday. The junior opened the day with 17 kills and a program-record 10 block solos in a five-set loss at the hands of the Lasers before leading the Monks to a 3-1 triumph over Anna Maria with 24 kills in 39 attempts for a .564 attack percentage. Her kill total versus the AMCATS tied a program four- match record, originally set 12 years ago, and also established a new career-high for the junior captain.

Through 29 matches and 108 sets so far this fall, the junior middle blocker has accumulated 290 kills, 42 service aces, 105 digs, 132 total blocks (99 solo) and 447.5 points. She currently leads the conference in total blocks, block solos, blocks per set (1.22) and points and ranks second in the league in kills and points per set (4.1). The offensive player is the third of her career and first of the 2014 season. Wachowiak has been chosen as the GNAC Defensive Player of the Week twice this fall and has collected 10 weekly honors in her career overall.

Through nearly three collegiate seasons, Wachowiak has tallied 907 kills with 332 total blocks, including 210 solos, over 90 matches and 316 total sets. She has already shattered every program blocks record – career, season and single game – and is fast approaching the SJC career record for kills (1,107), which was set by her former teammate, Sarah Hawkes '13.

Saint Joseph's will close out the 2014 campaign with a non-conference tri-match at Southern Maine with matches versus UMass.-Dartmouth (2:00 PM) and the host Huskies (4:00 PM) next Saturday.
