Wachowiak & Thompson Earn GNAC Offensive, Defensive Player Honors

STANDISH, Maine – The Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) weekly accolades have been released and a pair of Saint Joseph's College women's volleyball players have earned honors.

Senior middle blocker Felicia Wachowiak (Milton, N.H.) has been selected as the GNAC Women's Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week for the fifth time this fall and freshman libero Jennelle Thompson (Farmington, N.H.) has claimed her third GNAC Defensive Player of the Week honor of the year.

Wachowiak continued her torrid pace in four matches last week as the senior middle blocker recorded 56 kills along with a 4.31 kills per set average and a stellar .443 attack rate, with just nine errors in 106 attempts at the net. Wachowiak posted a .714 attack rate with 16 kills in the Monks' first victory in 17 years over University of New England on Thursday and also became the GNAC's career blocks leader in the win over UNE.

Thompson totaled 70 digs in four matches (13 sets) for a 5.38 digs per set mark last week. The first-year libero broke the SJC single-season digs record in the team's first win over University of New England in 17 years on Thursday.

Wachowiak continues to lead the conference in kills (317), kills per set (3.69), block solos (55), total blocks (85), points (387) and points per set (4.5). Through 117 career matches (411 sets), the senior captain has logged 1,253 kills with a .280 career attack rate and 425 total blocks (269 solo). Among active NCAA DIII players, Wachowiak ranks second in career total blocks, trailing only Cheyenne Dowdey of Mary Hardin-Baylor, who has rejected 564 attempts in her career.

Thompson remains as the GNAC leader – by wide margins - in digs (504) and digs per set (5.86) and, as of October 15th, ranked 10th in NCAA DIII in digs per set and 15th in total digs.

Saint Joseph's (21-4, 6-2 GNAC) will host Bates College at 7:00 PM on Thursday.
