Keenan steps down as SJC Women's Lacrosse Coach

STANDISH, Maine – Saint Joseph's College Associate Vice President/Chief Athletics & Recreation Officer Will Rothermel has announced that David Keenan will be stepping down from his position as the head coach of the Monks' women's lacrosse program at the end of June.

Keenan, the first full-time women's lacrosse coach in Saint Joseph's history, has made significant contributions to the program since his appointment. Over his seven-year tenure, the program achieved an impressive overall record of 60-13 (.821), including a 36-4 (.900) mark in conference play.

"Coach Keenan has had a tremendous impact on our women's lacrosse program and has set the program up for great success in the future," said Rothermel. "We are grateful for his contributions to Saint Joseph's College and wish him all the best in his future endeavors."

Under Keenan's guidance, the Monks captured their first Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Championship in 2022, leading to their second NCAA Tournament appearance and first since 2015. That year, the Monks posted a 20-1 record with a perfect 13-0 mark in GNAC play.

The team set numerous records, including wins (20), points (510), shots (744), shots on goal (571), free-position goals (60), draw controls (330), and man-up goals (26). In the 2023 season, Keenan earned GNAC Coach of the Year honors after leading the Monks to a 16-4 overall record and a 12-1 mark in conference play.

This spring, Saint Joseph's posted a 14-5 overall record with a 9-2 mark in GNAC play under the watch of Coach David Keenan. As the #2 seed in the GNAC North Division, the Monks toppled Regis College, 14-6, in the quarterfinal round before suffering a 15-8 loss at the hands of eventual GNAC Champion Johnson & Wales three days later.

A search for the next head coach of the Saint Joseph's College women's lacrosse program will begin immediately.
