Caroline Barnes named Associate Director of Athletics for External Relations & Senior Woman Administrator (SWA) at Saint Joseph’s College of Maine

STANDISH, ME – Associate Vice President and Chief Athletics & Recreation Officer, Will Rothermel, announced on Tuesday the appointment of Caroline Barnes as Associate Director of Athletics for External Relations and Senior Woman Administrator (SWA) at Saint Joseph's College of Maine.

Barnes will be instrumental in providing strategic direction and leadership for the athletics department as a member of the athletics leadership team. She will be primarily responsible for raising the profile of SJC Athletics by marketing, promoting and supporting the Monks' 22 varsity sports and roughly 350 student-athletes.

"Caroline is a tremendous addition to our team and brings with her a wealth of experience and perspective that will continue to drive our athletics department forward," said Rothermel. "I believe her energy, her ability to lead and her student focus makes her an excellent fit for this role and she will undoubtedly elevate our operation to new heights."

Barnes is a graduate (B.A. English) of nearby Bates College where she was a member of the volleyball and softball teams. She comes to Saint Joseph's most recently from the University of New England where she held the role of Student Outreach Coordinator. Prior to relocating to Maine, she was the Associate Athletics Director for Compliance and Facilities at Emerson College. At Emerson, she oversaw athletics communications, compliance, operations, event management and special events.

Barnes earned a Master's of Education in Higher Education and Student Affairs from Merrimack College where she also worked in the athletics department as an Assistant Athletic Director overseeing compliance, student-athlete welfare, marketing and ticketing.

Barnes will assume her new role on July 1.
