Carl Howell '99

CARL HOWELL ‘99, a three-time NAIA All-American, essentially rewrote the Monks basketball record books in his four years at Saint Joseph's. In his career, he set 17 records, 14 of which stand nearly 10 years later. Howell ranks as the program's all-time leader in six statistical categories, including points (2,319), scoring average (20.4 points per game) and rebounds (927). As a sophomore, Carl set the single-game scoring mark when he netted 52 points against Maine-Machias, including an incredible 36 points in the first half, also a program-best. In addition, Howell owns three single-season records, all set in 1999 when he made 289 field goals, scored 769 points and posted a 26.5 scoring average. For his efforts in his final season, he received NAIA All-American First Team, All-State, All-Conference, State of Maine Player of the Year and Conference Player of the Year honors. In all, Howell earned 14 postseason awards and on two occasions won both the State of Maine Player of the Year and Conference Player of the Year awards. Carl helped lead Saint Joseph's to the NAIA National Championship Tournament three times and the Monks recorded a four-year record of 95-18 in his four seasons.
