A three-year starting pitcher for the Monks’ baseball team, Esmond recorded a 2.50 earned run average – which ranked as the second-lowest in team history at the time of his induction - with 141 strikeouts in 133 career innings and played on a pair of NAIA New England Championship clubs
As a senior, Esmond posted one of the finest seasons in the history of Saint Joseph’s baseball when he registered a program-record 1.25 ERA while fanning 90 batters in 65 innings and earned All-Conference, All-Northeast, NAIA Honorable Mention All-America, Conference Player of the Year and Conference Tournament Most Valuable Player honors for his performance
