STANDISH, MAINE - A second inning grand slam by freshman
Luke Enman (Milan, NH) lifted St. Joe's to an 8-6
victory over visiting Rivier College. Senior Matt
Vasil (Enfield, NH) earned his third win of the season as
St. Joe's improved to 24-9.
The bats came alive in the second inning as the Monks scored 5
runs. Junior Nick Arno (Windham, ME) walked and
freshmen Andrew Wood (South Portland, ME) and
Brian Schools (Gorham, ME) singled. Senior captain
Andy Exley sent Arno home on a
sacrifice fly. Sophomore Mark Clapp (Blue Hill, M
) walked to load the bases and Enman hit the 4-run
shot to make it 5-0.
St. Joe's added another run in the fourth as Exley hit a double and
Clapp singled to send him home.
Rivier loaded the bases with three hits in the fifth, but
Vasil struck out the next batter and the Monks got
the final out on a ground ball to third. The Raiders scored a run
in the sixth as freshman Kevin Moyer (Georgetown,
MA) hit a double and sophomore Scott Fournier Pepperell, MA)
walked. Sophomore Mike Crawford (Yarmouth, M )
singled to score Moyer and make it 6-1.
The Raiders added a run in the seventh but St. Joe's responded with
a two run homer by Enman that scored freshman Matt
Shanahan (Wincheste , MA). Rivier scored three
more runs in the ninth, but the Monks closed out the inning with
freshman Dave Doucette (Ipswich, MA) recording the
save.
Wood was 3-for-4 and Clapp,
Enman and Schools had two hits
apiece for the Monks.
