Clutch Hitting Lifts Monks Over Husson in 10 innings
St. Joe's Advances to Championship Round

STANDISH, MAINE - Home runs by sophomore Dustin Spiller (Gorham, ME) and junior Mark Clapp (Blue Hill, ME) gave St. Joe's an 11-9 victory in today's 10-inning battle. Husson (24-14) plays Castleton State (22-18) in the 6 p.m. game this evening while the Monks will take on the winner of that game at noon tomorrow.

Spiller crushed a ninth inning lead-off homer over the right field fence to break an 8-8 tie, but Husson responded in the bottom of the inning as senior Jason Harvey (Bucksport, ME) singled and scored off a hit by senior Chris McInnis (Winslow, ME).

With one out, St. Joe's intentionally walked two batters to set the stage for a spectacular 1-2-3 double play to end the inning.

Sophomore Brian Schools (Gorham, ME) singled to start the tenth and NAC Rookie of the Year Wade Oliver (Owls Head, ME) moved him to second and beat out the throw to first for a bunt single.

With Clapp at the plate, Schools was caught stealing and thrown out at third, but Clapp then ripped a two-run shot over center field to give St. Joe's an 11-9 lead. Senior Ben Muniz (Readfield, ME) drilled a shot to the left field warning track, but sophomore Nate Ellis (Hermon, ME) made the catch for the final out.

Sophomore Miles Johnson (Berwick, ME) came into the game in the tenth with a runner on first base and with the help of the Monks defense, slammed the door shut on the Eagles.

Junior Sam Tupper (Yarmouth, ME) earned the win and Johnson was credited with a save while Jack Hughes (Dudley, MA) struck out five in six innings for St. Joe's.

The Monks were led by Oliver (3/6, 1R, 3RBI), Schools (3/5) and Clapp (1/5, 1R, 3RBI).

Leading the Eagles were Harvey (3/6, 2R, 1RBI), McInnis (2/4, 1R, 2 RBI) and junior Adam Sheehan (Bucksport, ME) (2/3,2R, 1RBI). Sophomore Jon Tefft (Lisbon, ME) took the loss for Husson.
