STANDISH, Maine - Weekly accolades have been released and a pair of Saint Joseph's College baseball players have been honored.
Junior catcher Anthony DiPrizio (Rochester, N.H.) has garnered D3Baseball.com Team of the Week and Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Corvias Player of the Week accolades and freshman hurler Zach Begin (Georgetown, Mass.) has been selected as the GNAC Corvias Rookie of the Week.
DiPrizio helped lead the Monks to a doubleheader sweep of King's (Pa.) by hitting .667 (4-6) with two runs, three doubles, and three RBI while slugging 1.167 in the season-opening twinbill. The junior was 2-3 with a run, a double, and two RBI in a 10-6 victory over the Monarchs and went 2-3 with a run, two doubles, and an RBI in a 2-0 nightcap victory over King's (Pa.).
Begin kicked off his collegiate career with a gem, as the freshman hurler tossed a complete-game two-hit shutout with 12 strikeouts against King's (Pa.) on Sunday night. Begin allowed just one runner to reach third base and fanned six of the last seven batters he faced, including all three hitters in the bottom of the seventh.
Saint Joseph's (2-1) is playing #22 St. John Fisher this morning and faces Wartburg College tomorrow at 9:30 AM.
