Osmanski, Martin & Barrett to Play in NEILA East-West Senior All-Star Game

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. – Saint Joseph's College seniors Alex Osmanski (Abington, Mass.), Brendan Martin (Nashua, N.H.), and Jason Barrett (East Sandwich, Mass.) have been selected to play in the 2021 New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (NEILA) East-West Senior All Star Game.

Fifty-two players from Divisions 1, 2 & 3 will compete in this year's All-Star Game, which will be played at 7:00 PM at Roger Williams University in Bristol, Rhode Island. Players and coaches should be at the field by 6:15 PM.

All players and coaches were nominated by the head coaches within the NEILA.  Players were then ranked and selected by a committee, awarding seniors from all three NCAA Divisions who played their college career in the New England region. This exhibition game is the only one of its kind - being a regional all-star contest which includes players from Divisions 1, 2, and 3.

The annual event is returning to the field for the first time since 2019, as last year's game was cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

A 2021 First Team All-Conference LSM, Osmanski tallied four goals and an assist with 30 ground balls and 12 caused turnovers in eight games this season. The senior LSM played in 46 career games with six goals, three assists, 122 ground balls, and 42 caused turnovers.

Martin, who earned Third Team All-Conference honors this spring, scored a team-high 29 goals with 10 assists for 39 points over eight games during the 2021 campaign. The senior attack led the conference with 10 man-up goals and finished the year ranked sixth in the GNAC in goals scored. In 31 career games, Martin netted 54 goals with 23 assists for 77 total points with 57 ground balls and 12 caused turnovers. He leaves the program ranked sixth in team history in goals per game (1.74) and seventh in points per game (2.48).

Barrett will appear in the All-Star Game after notching 12 ground balls and nine caused turnovers in seven contests during the 2021 season. The standout defender played in 34 career games with 53 ground balls and 34 caused turnovers.

"This is a great opportunity to highlight the college careers of these young men. For many, it is one last time for them to play an organized game against such high competition. It is also a chance to compete with players you may have battled against throughout your college career," said Tim Murphy, head coach of Curry College and coordinator of the East-West All-Star team selection.

The Monks will also be represented on the sideline as Assistant Coach Matt Gilbert has been tabbed as a coach for the East Team, as the NEILA East-West game also gives assistant coaches from some of the top programs each year the opportunity to take the reins as the coaching staff of each team. The coaches are nominated by the head coaches who are members of the NEILA.

This year, the West will be coached by Daniel Thomas (Clark), Eric Johnson (Eastern Connecticut State) and Rich Bernasconi (Salve Regina). The East will be head manned by Gilbert, Ben Feintuck (Lasell), Kyle Hayes (Babson), and Nick Neugebauer (UNE).
