Colby Tops Saint Joseph's in Non-Conference Play

WATERVILLE, Maine – Colby College (1-1) defeated Saint Joseph's College (0-5), 26-6, in a non-conference men's lacrosse contest on Wednesday evening.

Colby scored five goals in the opening five minutes and raced out to a 16-1 advantage heading into halftime. The Mules outscored the Monks by a 5-2 margin in the third quarter and netted four straight to start the fourth before St. Joe's netted three of the game's final four goals to account for the 26-6 final.

Senior Xavier Michaud (Wales, Maine) led the SJC offense with a pair of goals while sophomore Anthony Samiotes (Hampstead, N.H.) picked up three ground balls and a caused turnover in the setback.

Max Solmssen, Jack Goller, and Ben Reynolds scored three goals apiece for Colby while Justin Turley won 20-of-23 face-off attempts with 12 ground balls on the evening.

SJC senior keeper Brannon Gilbert (Gray, Maine) made five saves in 27:15 and sophomore Liam Greene (Mansfield, Mass.) turned away six shots in 25:49 between the pipes. Sophomore Scott Walsh (Brookline, N.H.) allowed a goal in 6:56 of relief duty.

Colby netminders Matt Suffredini, Matt Rocha, and Will Heisler combined to make three saves in goal for the hosts.

Saint Joseph's will host New England College in a non-conference contest on Saturday at 1:00 PM.
