Gilbert Promoted to Role of Associate Head Coach

STANDISH, Maine - Saint Joseph's men's lacrosse Head Coach Bill Cosentino has announced that Matt Gilbert has been promoted to the position of Associate Head Coach.

Since arriving at Saint Joseph's prior to the 2020 campaign, Coach Gilbert has helped the Monks post a 23-25 overall record with a 14-10 mark in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play. With Gilbert playing a larger role on the coaching staff this spring, St. Joe's showed great improvement with a 10-8 overall record, including an 8-2 docket in GNAC play, after posting a 5-13 slate with a 3-7 GNAC mark in 2022.

The Monks opened the 2023 season with five consecutive losses but proceeded to win 10 of their next 12 games, securing the right to host a first-round playoff game for the first time since 2019 in the process.

"Over the last four years Matt has been a consistent leader in our program," adds Coach Cosentino. "He goes above and beyond his responsibilities as assistant coach. He makes himself available to our student-athletes, brings great ideas to the program, collaborates with me on practice and game plans, and most importantly, cares deeply about our student-athletes. Elevating him to Associate Head Coach is a fitting role as he already fulfils so many responsibilities of a head coach. He's my right hand man and I know he will always give me and our program his best."

The 2023 team established new program records for goals (249), assists (161), points (410), man-down goals (6), shots on goal (519), and caused turnovers (264) and ranked highly in NCAA DIII in caused turnovers per game (4th, 14.67) and opponent clear percentage (.676).
