David Beriau was named as the Saint Joseph's men's lacrosse head coach in August of 2013.

In 2015, the Monks posted a 5-9 overall record with a 2-6 mark in conference play. Saint Joseph’s opened the season with a pair of losses, but rebounded with five consecutive victories – a program record – to improve to 5-2. Unfortunately, the streak swung in favor of the SJC opponents from there on out, as the Monks closed out the year riding a seven-game losing skid.

Although the team missed the playoffs for the first time in seven years, the young 2015 squad showed signs of promise for the future. Freshman midfielder Brendan Barrett (East Sandwich, Mass.) was selected as the GNAC and ECAC New England Rookie of the Week on March 23rd and led the team with 36 points while freshman defender Liam Skinner (Irving, Texas) tallied 54 ground balls with 35 caused turnovers – both team-highs – in his first collegiate campaign.

In Beriau’s first year at the helm, Saint Joseph’s went 6-8 overall and 5-5 in GNAC play en route to earning the #6 seed in the conference tournament. Facing #3 Becker College in the quarterfinal round, the Monks held the lead as late as midway through the third quarter before eventually falling to the Hawks by a 9-5 margin.

The Monks set new team single-season records in scoring defense (6.36) and save percentage (.622) and posted the second-highest caused turnovers per game rate (12.79) in the seven-year history of the program. Employing Coach Beriau’s suffocating defensive philosophy, Saint Joseph’s ranked fourth nationally in scoring defense as well as 20th in man-down defense (.824) and 24th in caused turnovers per game.

Junior goalkeeper Ethan Rettew (Ephrata, Pa.) benefited greatly from the defensive efforts and ranked fifth in the country in goals against average (6.37) and 13th in save percentage (.626), categories in which he set SJC single-season records in his first season as a starter.

Beriau, who hails from East Sandwich, Massachusetts, comes to Saint Joseph’s after serving as a graduate assistant at University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth for two years. As a member of the Corsairs’ coaching staff, he helped the team post a two-year record of 20-11 with a pair of Little East Conference (LEC) appearances. Coach Beriau also played a hand in the program’s first LEC Tournament victory in 10 years when the Corsairs defeated University of Southern Maine in the 2012 tourney.

Previously, Beriau served as an assistant at Colby College during the spring of 2011, when the Mules posted a 9-7 record and made an appearance in the New England Small College Athletic Conference Tournament. Prior to his stint in Waterville, he was an assistant at Falmouth Academy, a small co-ed private school on Cape Cod, in 2010 and helped the team capture the Southeastern New England Independent Schools Athletic Association (SENEISAA) crown for the first time in eight years.

Beriau has also worked as the Assistant Director at Cape Cod Lacrosse where he assisted in all operations of the organization, including teaching private lessons and group skills clinics.

Beriau played four years of collegiate lacrosse for Head Coach Preston Chapman at Elmira College in upstate New York. While playing numerous positions over his career, he tallied six goals and 19 assists with 83 ground balls in 52 contests. Beriau, a team co-captain as a senior, was the Soaring Eagles’ representative on the Empire 8 Conference Sportsman of the Year Team and was also the Elmira men’s lacrosse Teammate Award recipient in 2006.

Beriau earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from Elmira in 2009 and is working towards completing his Master’s in Business Administration from UMass.-Dartmouth.
