Standish, ME - The Saint Joseph's College Men's Soccer team
needed a victory over Mount Ida College and some help from at least
two other GNAC schools to earn a bid into the playoffs on
Wednesday. As it turned out, all went in the Monk's favor. SR
Shannon DeShield (Pembroke, Bermuda) scored both
of St. Joe's goals in a 2-0 victory over the Mustangs and SO GK
Cory Smith (Ellsworth, ME) recorded his 4th
shutout of the season in the game. FY Paul Robins
(Cornwall, England) picked up an assist on DeShield's first
score.
In order to gain a spot in the eight team GNAC tournament, the
Monks needed the victory and a loss by two of three schools:
Emerson College, Rivier College and Emmanuel College. All three
schools lost their games and the Monks moved up to the 7th slot in
the tournament and will play Sunday, 10/28 vs. Johnson and Wales
University at Pierce Stadium. Game time is 1:00 PM.
