Eight Monks Claim All-Conference Honors

STANDISH, Maine – The 2023 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) men's soccer postseason accolades have been announced and eight Saint Joseph's College players have earned accolades.

Junior goalkeeper Liam Foley (Middleton, Mass.) headlines the Monks' list of honorees as the 2023 GNAC Goalkeeper of the Year and First Team All-Conference selection. He is joined on the First Team by senior defender Will Wood (Franklin, N.H.) and junior midfielder Rion Dos Santos (São Paulo, Brazil).

Junior forward Gus Ford (Falmouth, Maine) and freshman defender Diego Robinson (Hinesburg, Vt.) have claimed Second Team All-Conference honors and senior Alec Kosinski (East Lyme, Conn.) is a Third Team All-GNAC selection.

Robinson and fellow freshmen Cole Bishop (Gorham, Maine) and Divin Mpinga (Kinshasa, DRC) have collected All-Rookie Team acclaim and complete the list of Saint Joseph's honorees.

Foley claims First Team All-Conference and GNAC Goalkeeper of the Year honors after ranking second in the conference in goals against average (0.61), wins (12), shutouts (10) and minutes (1613:18), and third in save percentage (.831) and fewest goals allowed (11). Foley posted the fifth-lowest goals against average in program history and played a major role in helping the Monks capture the GNAC regular season crown as a first-year starter.

Foley's keeper of the year award marks the seventh-consecutive season that an SJC netminder has been selected as the league's top goalie. Two-time All-American Blake Mullen '19 was named as the conference's top keeper in 2016, 2017 and 2018, David Walbridge '21 earned the same honor in 2019 and 2021, and Mike Sheridan '23 took home the award last fall.

Dos Santos secures First Team All-Conference honors for the second time – and All-GNAC accolades for the third straight year overall – after leading the team in goals (6), assists (8), and points (20) as a junior. In 55 career games, Dos Santos has netted 13 goals with 13 assists for 39 total points while recording five game-winning tallies.

Wood, a 2022 Second Team All-GNAC selection, earns First Team accolades after posting a goal and two assists for four total points as a senior defender. In two seasons at Saint Joseph's the 2023 team co-captain has played in 37 games with two goals and seven assists.

Ford, who claimed Third Team All-Conference honors last fall, picks up Second Team All-GNAC acclaim after netting three goals with an assist for seven total points in 13 games during an injury-marred junior campaign. In 47 career contests, Ford has tallied 16 goals – including four game-clinchers - with five assists for 37 points.

Robinson collects Second Team All-GNAC and All-Rookie Team honors after scoring two goals with an assist during what was an impressive first-year campaign. The physical center back is one of just four freshmen to earn All-Conference mention and one of two – USJ's Matthew Dima being the other – to be listed as high as the Second Team.

Kosinski secures Third Team All-GNAC honors – the first postseason award of his career – after dishing out one assist in 13 games during his final collegiate campaign. The fifth-year midfielder and team co-captain - who missed a handful of games due to injury this fall - appeared in 63 contests over four seasons.

Freshmen forward Bishop and Mpinga are listed on the GNAC All-Rookie Team after having an immediate impact on the Monks' offensive attack in 2023. Bishop scored three goals – including a game-winner – during his first NCAA season while Mpinga netted one goal this fall.

The Monks posted a 12-4-3 overall record with an 11-2-1 mark in GNAC play under the watch of fifth-year Head Coach Will Pike '11 this fall. With 34 standing points, St. Joe's earned the #1 seed in the conference tourney for the sixth time in the last seven seasons and advanced to the GNAC semifinal round with a 3-0 triumph over #8 Regis College before falling in the second round to #5 Norwich University, 1-0, three days later.
