ON THIS DATE: #5/10 Saint Joseph’s Tips Salem State, 1-0

On October 23rd, 2018 the Saint Joseph's College men's soccer team edged Salem State University, 1-0, in a hard-fought non-conference contest at the SJC Athletics Complex.

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Senior midfielder Rory Twomey (South Windsor, Conn.) converted a penalty kick attempt with 2:15 remaining to lift the Monks, ranked fifth and 10th in the D3soccer.com and United Soccer Coaches national polls, respectively, at the time, past the Vikings in dramatic fashion
  • SJC sophomore David Walbridge (Hampden, Mass.) made a pair of saves to register his second shutout in as many starts
  • St. Joe's held the lead in shots (25-5), shots on goal (6-2), and corner kicks (9-2) on the evening
  • With the victory, Saint Joseph's completed the regular season with a perfect 17-0-0 record and remained as the only NCAA DIII men's soccer team without a loss or tie at the time
  • The win also extended the Monks' winning streak to a program-record 17 games and the team's undefeated streak to 38 games, the longest current stretch in DIII men's soccer
