Beavers Clip Monks in Season Opener, 1-0

BABSON PARK, Mass. – Saint Joseph's College (0-1-0) opened the 2023 season with a 1-0 setback at the hands of Babson College (1-0-0) on Friday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Beavers netted the game's lone goal in the 39th minute when senior Liam Rhatigan (Holderness, N.H.) buried a shot inside the right post off quick passes from Lorenzo Mancini (Franklin, Mass.) and Will Lloyd (Lexington, Mass.).

TEAM STATS:

Babson held the lead in shots (15-6) and corner kicks (5-1) while St. Joe's registered a 4-3 edge in shots on goal on the afternoon.

THE KEEPERS:

SJC junior Liam Foley (Middleton, Mass.), making his first career start, recorded one save in the losing bid. Babson junior netminder Walker White (Coral Gables, Fla.) turned away four shots in the shutout performance.

GAME NOTES:

  • Senior Alec Kosinski (East Lyme, Conn.) led the Monks with two shots
  • The Monks are now 0-2-1 all-time versus Babson College
  • These teams last met in the 2016 NCAA Tournament, when Saint Joseph's advanced to the second round via PK's after 110 minutes of scoreless play (11/12/16)
  • Babson has won three-consecutive NEWMAC Championships and ended the 2022 campaign ranked 22nd nationally in the final D3soccer.com poll
