Benson Named GNAC Outdoor Field Athlete of the Year

STANDISH, Maine – The Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Outdoor Track & Field postseason accolades have been announced and Saint Joseph's College senior James Benson (Gorham, Maine) has been selected as the 2022 GNAC Men's Field Athlete of the Year.

Benson claims the major conference honor after winning four conference championships in the 100-Meter (11.23), 200-Meter (22.62), Long Jump (6.29m) and Triple Jump (12.27m) to help the Monks post a runner-up finish at the GNAC Championship, which was hosted by Colby-Sawyer College on Sunday, May 1st.

The senior UMaine transfer established four new program records this spring, a list that includes the 100-Meter dash (11.20), 200-Meter dash (22.62), Long Jump (6.42m), and Triple Jump (12.70m). He also ran a leg for the Monks' record-breaking 4x400-Meter relay quartet, which posted a 3:34.60 time in the NCAA DIII New England Regional on May 5th, 2022.
