WINTHROP, Mass. – The five men's and five women's Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) outdoor track & field teams will travel to Regis for the two-day 2024 GNAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships this weekend April 27-28. Day one on Saturday is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. for field events and 4:30 p.m. on the track.
In the week leading up to this year's championship, the five GNAC track & field head coaches conducted a Pre-Championship Poll. Saint Joseph's (Maine) was picked to win on the men's side, while the Regis women were predicted to finish first.
The Monks' men's squad is hoping to defend their 2023 title this season, earning 24 points in the voting and four of the possible five first place votes. The remaining top bid went to Regis, which ranks second in this year's voting with 20 points. Colby-Sawyer (16 points), Emmanuel (9), and Lasell (6) rounded out the poll for the men.
Under the leadership of the 2023 Men's Outdoor Track & Field Coaching Staff of the Year, led by Director of Track & Field/Cross Country Michael Burleson, Saint Joseph's returns 14 athletes from the 2023 GNAC Championship squad, including seniors Nick Carmosino (Acton, Mass.), Ryan Farr (Gorham, Maine), Wesley Hundley (Kennebunk, Maine), and Ethan Tardif (Auburn, Maine).
Farr looks to defend his 400-meter dash title while sophomore Abdirizak Abukar (Lewiston, Maine) and junior Dylan Dickey (Laconia, N.H.) figure to double down on their 200-meter dash and javelin throw crowns, respectively, from a year ago.
2023 GNAC Men's Outdoor Track Rookie of the Year Alexey Seredin (Peaks Island, Maine), two-time GNAC Rookie of the Week Haytham Ramadan (Khartoum, Sudan), and April 21st Rookie of the Week selection Tudum Monday (Lewiston, Maine) bolster a young roster that features 17 freshmen.
