Monks Roll Over Terriers, 16-3

WATERVILLE, Maine – Saint Joseph's College (4-1) cruised past Thomas College, 16-3, in a non-conference women's lacrosse contest on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:        

The Monks opened the game with six straight goals, as six different SJC players hit pay dirt in the opening 14 minutes. The Terriers netted three of the game's following five goals and trailed 8-3 with three minutes before the break, but the hosts failed to find the back of the net for the remainder of the contest.

Freshman Cailyn Wesley (Peabody, Mass.) pocketed her second tally of the contest with 57 seconds on the first-half clock and freshman Megan Mourmouras (Biddeford, Maine) scored four times in the latter 30 minutes to help the Monks post a 7-0 advantage in the second stanza.

TEAM STATS:

Saint Joseph's held the lead in shots (33-11), shots on goal (28-6), ground balls (20-18), draw controls (14-7), and caused turnovers (14-9) in the victory.

THE KEEPERS:

SJC junior starter Madelyn Nelson (Casco, Maine) made a pair of saves in 51:03 in net while senior Amanda Huang (Gray, Maine) turned away one shot in 8:57 of relief duty. Thomas keeper Arianna Cannistraro made 12 saves in a losing effort.

LEADERS – SAINT JOSEPH'S:

  • Mourmouras scored four goals with two caused turnovers
  • Junior attack Lydia Dexter (Oakland, Maine) tallied two goals, four assists, five ground balls, and two caused turnovers
  • Freshman Carson Battaglia (Gorham, Maine) scored twice and recorded 10 draw controls
  • Wesley netted a pair of goals and first-year Bridget Collins (Milford, Conn.) chipped in with a goal and an assist

LEADERS – THOMAS:

  • Taylor Rodriguez, Mackenzie Driscoll, and Autumn Howe scored a goal apiece
  • Nikki Bradstreet contributed five ground balls and four caused turnovers

HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:

Saint Joseph's is now 10-1 all-time versus Thomas College with wins over the Terriers in each of the last four meetings.
