Six Monks Listed on IWLCA Academic Honor Roll

STANDISH, Maine – The 2023 Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Association (IWLCA) Division III Academic Honor Roll has been released and six Saint Joseph's College players have been honored.

Grad student Lydia Dexter (Oakland, Maine), seniors Hannah Flaherty (Waltham, Mass.) and Tara Powers (Tyngsboro, Mass.), and juniors Carson Battaglia (Gorham, Maine), Bridget Collins (Milford, Conn.), and Cailyn Wesley (Biddeford, Maine) are among the 963 student-athletes from 173 different institutions listed on the 2023 IWLCA Division III Academic Honor Roll.

To be eligible for this honor, student-athletes must be a junior, senior, or graduate student and have earned a cumulative academic GPA of 3.50 or greater.

Dexter, who completed her master's degree in Education Leadership last spring, netted 85 goals with 46 assists for a total of 131 points during the 2023 season. She leaves the program as the Monks' career leader in points (375), points per game (5.77), assists (161), and assists per game (2.48).

Flaherty, who double-majored in Art & Design and Psychology with a minor in Business at St. Joe's, registered an assist with two ground balls, a pair of draw controls, and two caused turnovers in 13 games during her senior season. In four years, Flaherty played in27 games with three goals and an assist, eight ground balls, three draw controls, and seven caused turnovers.

Powers, a Nursing major and key defender for the Monks, tallied 25 ground balls and 22 caused turnovers during her senior campaign. She capped her career with 73 ground balls and 55 caused turnovers in 50 career contests.

Battaglia, a Nursing major and standout midfielder, tallied 41 goals, 10 assists, 72 ground balls, 157 draw controls, and 35 caused turnovers in 20 games this spring. The junior midfielder led the conference in draw controls and ranked third in the GNAC in ground balls this season. Battaglia broke the Monks' career draw controls record in just 48 games over two-plus years on the turf.

Collins, a Criminal Justice major, scored 36 goals with 15 assists for 51 total points in 20 games during her junior season. She capped the 2023 campaign with 98 goals and 32 assists for 130 points in 49 career games.

Wesley, a Nursing major, missed the entire 2023 campaign with an injury. In 29 career games she has netted 56 goals with 11 assists, 59 ground balls, 60 draw controls, and 20 caused turnovers.
