Saint Joseph's Claims 2023 IWLCA Academic Honor

STANDISH, Maine – The Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) has named 288 schools as IWLCA Academic Honor Squads for the 2022-23 academic year and Saint Joseph's College is one of 165 NCAA DIII programs from around the nation to earn the accolade.

To qualify for this prestigious honor, the women's lacrosse team must have posted a 3.2 or higher team GPA for the academic year. The Monks sported a 3.45 GPA last year and posted a 16-4 overall record, including a 12-1 mark in conference play, during the 2023 season.

The squad's high scholastic achievement is fortified by six players who garnered IWLCA Academic Honor Roll accolades last week. Grad student Lydia Dexter (Oakland, Maine), seniors Hannah Flaherty (Waltham, Mass.) and Tara Powers (Tyngsboro, Mass.), and juniors Carson Battaglia (Gorham, Maine), Bridget Collins (Milford, Conn.), and Cailyn Wesley (Biddeford, Maine) were among the 963 student-athletes from 173 different institutions listed on the 2023 IWLCA Division III Academic Honor Roll.

Also, a total of 14 SJC women's lacrosse players – including the six mentioned above - earned GNAC All-Academic honors while carrying at least a 3.25 GPA through the 2023 spring semester.

St. Joe's is one of six GNAC teams listed among the 2023 IWLCA Academic Honor Squads, as the Monks are joined by Dean College, Elms College, Emmanuel College, Regis College, and Simmons University on the exclusive list.
