Monks Take Fourth in First-Ever Varsity Track & Field Meet

BRUNSWICK, ME – The Saint Joseph's women's indoor track & field team finished fourth with 16 points in the first event in program history, the Bowdoin College Invitational, on Saturday afternoon. Sophomore Amber Dostie (Standish, Maine) claimed the first victory in the team's short varsity history with a 5:24.30 effort in the one mile run.

Several individuals performed well in the Monks' inaugural event, including sophomore Doe Leckie (Naples, Maine), who placed fifth in 60 meter hurdles (10.02), and junior Sarah Bakun (Clinton, Mass.), who finished fifth in the 400 meter dash (1:19.48). Freshman Deanna Barry (Cumberland, Maine) also finished fifth in the pole vault (7-00.25).

Bowdoin swept its hosted-event with top finishes by wide margins and tallied 185 points on the women's side. Southern Maine (126 pts), Colby College (19), Saint Joseph's (16) and Maine-Farmington (4) rounded out the field of participating institutions.

Others SJC athletes scoring in the event include sophomore Heather Eaton (Lincolnville, Maine), who placed sixth in the 600 meter run (1:52.45), Audrey Curry (Perry, Maine), who finished sixth in the 800 meter run (2:43.93), and Ashley Condon (Sumner, Maine), who recorded a sixth-place time in the 3000 meter run (12:40.74).

Kirstin McCombs (Lewiston, Maine), Macy Pagurko (Augusta, Maine), Riley Jones (Winslow, Maine), and Lauren Tidd (Walpole, Mass.) also competed in the meet for Saint Joseph's.

The Monks return to action on January 5th at University of Southern Maine.
