Women Place Seventh at Southern Maine

GORHAM, ME – The Saint Joseph's indoor women's track and field team finished seventh out of 11 participating institutions with 26 points in a USM Invitational meet on Saturday. Sophomore Amber Dostie (Standish, Maine) highlighted the day with victories in the 1000 meter run (3:07.76) and 3000 meter run (11:01.78) events.

Also performing well for the Monks were sophomores Doe Leckie (Naples, Maine), who was fourth in the 55 meter hurdles (9.41), and Heather Eaton (Lincolnville, Maine), who finished seventh in the 3000 meter run (11:38.90).

Southern Maine won the event with 178 points, just ahead of Colby College which finished as the runner-up with 171 team points. Bates College (144), Smith College (53), Merrimack College (48), Assumption College (28), Emmanuel College (17), Gordon College (14), Maine-Farmington (4) and Husson University (3) rounded out the field of participating institutions.

The women will compete in the Maine State Intercollegiate Championship at Bowdoin College on Friday at 6:00 PM.
