Dostie State Champion in 1000 Meter Run

BRUNSWICK, ME - The Saint Joseph's College women's indoor track and field team placed fifth with 15 points in the 2013 State of Maine Championship at Bowdoin College on Friday evening. Sophomore Amber Dostie (Standish, Maine) claimed the crown in the 1000 Meter Run with a season-best 3:05.78 performance.

Saint Joseph's, a first-year NCAA varsity program, fared well in the team's first appearance in the Maine State Championship as three individuals earned points after claiming top-seven finishes in a trio of events. Sophomore Doe Leckie (Naples, Maine), who finished sixth in the 60 Meter Hurdles with a 9.90 effort and Heather Eaton (Lincolnville, Maine), who placed seventh in the 5000 Meter Run with a 19:43.97 time, joined Dostie in producing points for the Royal Blue. 

Bowdoin College claimed the team State Championship with 203.60 points, comfortably ahead of runner-up Bates College, which accumulated 185.60 points on the evening. Colby College (183.80) was third, Southern Maine (110) finished fourth and Husson University (3) placed sixth.

Saint Joseph's continues the indoor season with an appearance in the Valentine Invitational at Boston University on Friday at 1:00 PM.
