Outdoor Season Begins at Bridgewater State University Invitational

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Saint Joseph's College kicked off the outdoor track & field season with an appearance in the Bridgewater State University Invitational on Saturday. The event was a non-scoring competition.

In Head Coach Scott Hutchinson's Saint Joseph's debut, a total of five team records – three on the men's side, two on the women's - fell on the first day of the 2016 outdoor season.

THE RUNDOWN – WOMEN:

  • Freshman Sarah Curtin (Strafford, N.H.) broke the team's 800-Meter record with a 2:36.47 time and finished eighth in the event and raced to a 21st-place finish in the 1500-Meter (5:26.18)
  • Freshman Alysha Smith (Jaffrey, N.H.) finished 23rd in the 200-Meter with a program-record 29.55 effort and was 32nd in the 100-Meter (14.16)
  • Freshman Meghan Burke (Falmouth, Maine) was ninth in the discus throw (29.46m) and 13th in the shot put (9.34m)
  • Freshman Julia Rowlett (Saco, Maine) finished 27th in the shot put (6.25m) and 57th in the 200-Meter (35.58)
  • Junior Kristina Schelling (Pelham, N.H.) placed 28th in the 400-Meter (1:14.06) and 38th in the 1500-Meter (5:54.46)
  • Sophomore Kyrie Harnden (Wilton, Maine) placed 39th in the 200-Meter (31.20) and 55th in the 100-Meter (15.29)
  • Freshman Nicole Morin (Auburn, Maine) was 55th in the 200-Meter (34.67) and 65th in the 100-Meter (17.14)
  • The Monks' 4x100 Meter Relay team placed sixth with a 56.77 time

THE RUNDOWN – MEN:

  • Sophomore Lucas Fisher (Strafford, N.H.) broke his own team record with a 17:03.76 time – and 14th-place finish – in the 5000-Meter
  • Freshman Malcolm Gocha (Plymouth, N.H.) set a new program record in the 100-Meter and finished 16th with an 11.74 time
  • Freshman Harry DeCotis (North Scituate, R.I.) was 20th with a team-record 18.94m effort in the hammer throw and finished 26th in the discus throw (23.88m)
  • Junior Nick Shuckrow (Winslow, Maine) finished 19th in the 800-Meter (2:17.34)
  • Freshman Kevin Cotter (Sandwich, Mass.) placed 21st in the hammer throw (18.16m) and 31st in the shot put (8.31m)
  • Freshman Alex Gutierrez (York, Maine) finished 22nd in the hammer throw (14.61m) and 33rd in the javelin throw (31.63m)
  • Senior Taidghe Hagan (Reading, Mass.) placed 25th in the 1500-Meter (4:31.90)
  • Freshman Marshall Berninghausen (Brasher Falls, N.Y.) was 27th in the javelin throw (33.72m), 34th in the shot put (7.73m) and 49th in the 100-Meter (14.19)
  • Freshman David Free (Quincy, Mass.) was 28th in the shot put (9.00m) and 30th in the discus throw (22.30m)
  • Freshman Avery Liotta-Henderson (Waterbury, Conn.) was 35th in the 800-Meter (2:25.29) and 55th in the 1500-Meter (5:05.39)
  • Freshman Joshua Hunter (Lawrence, Mass.) placed 50th in the 100-Meter (14.49) and 66th in the 200-Meter (30.45)

Saint Joseph's returns to action next Saturday in the Tufts University Invitational, which begins at 11:00 AM.
