Monks Participate in Colby College Open

WATERVILLE, Maine – The Saint Joseph's College outdoor track & field team competed in the Colby College Open on Saturday. Six program records were broken – four by the women, two for the men – in the event.

THE RUNDOWN – WOMEN

  • Freshman Sarah Curtin (Strafford, N.H.) placed third in the 3000-Meter steeplechase (12:38)
  • Freshman Meghan Burke (Falmouth, Maine) finished fourth in the discus throw (31.02m) and sixth in the shot put (9.30m)
  • First-year Alysha Smith (Jaffrey, N.H.) was fourth in the 100-Meter (13.47) and broke her own team record by nearly two seconds with a sixth place finish in the 200-Meter (27.98)
  • Rookie Kelsey Barrett (Gardiner, Maine) finished fifth in the 100-Meter (13.76) and 100-Meter hurdles (18.04 – program record)
  • Freshman Julia Rowlett (Saco, Maine) placed eighth in the hammer throw (20.72m – program record), 11th in the shot put (7.41m), 14th in the discus throw (19.67m), and 18th in the 200-Meter (35.92)
  • Junior Marisa Lundy (Merrimac, Mass.) raced to a ninth-place finish in the 800-Meter (2:46.67)
  • Sophomore Kyrie Harnden (Wilton, Maine) was 10th in the 100-Meter (14.53) and 12th in the 200-Meter (30.56)
  • Freshman Maureen Herlihy (Walpole, Mass.) finished 11th in the 800-Meter (2:47.58)
  • The women's 4x400 meter relay quartet – Lundy, Smith, Herlihy, and Curtin - placed fourth with a team-record 4:41.77 effort
THE RUNDOWN – MEN
  • Freshman Marshall Berninghausen (Brasher Falls, N.Y.) was fifth in the hammer throw (29.47m – program record) and discus throw (28.28m) events and sixth in the javelin throw (34.78m)
  • First-year David Free (Quincy, Mass.) finished fifth in the shot put (8.74m) and seventh in the discus throw (27.75m)
  • Freshman Kevin Cotter (Sandwich, Mass.) placed sixth in the shot put (8.49m) and seventh in the hammer throw (24.00m)
  • Freshman Harry DeCotis (North Scituate, R.I.) finished eighth in the hammer throw (20.74m), shot put (8.02m), and discus throw (27.13m) events
  • Freshman Malcolm Gocha (Plymouth, N.H.) was fifth in the 200-Meter (23.48) and eighth in the 100-Meter (11.65 – program record)
  • Sophomore Lucas Fisher (Strafford, N.H.) placed eighth in the 1500-Meter (4:35.80)
  • Junior Nick Shuckrow (Winslow, Maine) finished ninth in the 800-Meter (2:12.58)
  • Senior Taidghe Hagan (Reading, Mass.) was 10th in the 800-Meter (2:13.81)
  • Freshman Avery Liotta-Henderson (Waterbury, Conn.) placed 15th in the 800-Meter (2:16.90)
  • The men's 4x400 raced to a seventh-place finish with a 4:06.84 time

NOTEWORTHY

Racing in the 3000-Meter steeplechase for the first time, Curtin missed the NCAA Regional qualifying time by just eight seconds…Smith and Gocha both came close to qualifying in the 100-Meter dash…a total of nine personal-record efforts were recorded by the Monks.
