Sam comes to Saint Joseph's College as a highly touted left
handed pitcher from Walpole, Massachusetts where he played for Bill
Tomkins. As a senior captain Sam had one of the strongest seasons
on the mound in Walpole history. Sam was 8-2 with a .94 earned run
average with 82 strikeouts and only 4 walks in 83 innings pitched!
Sam was named a First Team Bay State League All-Star, 2008 Boston
Herald All-Scholastic, and he was the 2008 Daily News Transcript
Player of the Year. If that wasn't enough in American Legion for
Walpole Legion Post 104 Sam was 10-0 with 2 saves, a .75 ERA with
65 strikeouts in 70 innings pitched.
A minor arm issue kept Sam on the sidelines for most of the '08
fall baseball season at St. Joe's - so his teammates have yet to
see what this southpaw can bring to the rotation. Look for big
things from Sam Murray when he takes the mound for Coach Sanborn in
2009.
Sam is the son of Steven and Marion Murray of Walpole,
Massachusetts.
