2005 Golf Season Preview

Coach Jamie Smyth (SJC '92) begins his second season with nine returnees from the talented 2004 squad.

Last year, St. Joe's won the Maine Intercollegiate Golf Championship, the USM Scramble and took second place in both the UNE Invitational and the Thomas College Terrier Invitational. The team will be without the services of graduate Joe Manganaro (former number 1) on the links, but welcome him as an assistant coach this season.

Sophomore Francois Renaud (E. Middlebury, VT) heads a talented group of returnees and newcomers. Some of Renaud's low rounds last season include a 70 at the State of Maine Championship at Riverside and a 73 at the John Queenan Memorial Tournament at Point Sebago.

Sophomore Chris Deroche (Portland, ME) carded a 77 at the John Queenan Memorial Tournament and junior Jeff Peterson (Naples, ME) had a 75 at Thomas Invitational last year. Two freshmen who have broken into the top five are Andy LeConte (York, ME) and Matt Murray (Dexter, ME).

Senior Travis Beaulieu (Caribou, ME) and sophomore Chris Telgener (Bow, NH) will also see action this season.
