Riley Steps Down as SJC Men's Golf Coach

STANDISH, Maine – Saint Joseph's College Chief Athletics & Recreation Officer Will Rothermel has announced that Jason Riley '16 has stepped down from his position as the head coach of the Monks' men's golf program.

Riley piloted St. Joe's to Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) championships in 2021 and 2022 with subsequent NCAA DIII Tournament berths, as the Monks competed in the 2022 national tournament at Mission Inn Resort in Florida and the 2023 tourney at Keene Trace Golf Club in Kentucky last month.

Riley earned GNAC Coach of the Year accolades following each of the last two seasons after leading the Monks to consecutive conference championships for the first time in program history. Under his watch, the Royal Blue won six tournaments while fielding the medalist winner in 11 different events.

"We are so very thankful to Coach Riley for his leadership of our golf program and attention to the development of our student-athletes over the years," adds Rothermel. "He has truly elevated Monks Golf to the next level with back-to-back NCAA national championship berths and the bright future of the program is a testament to his commitment and passion. We are happy for the opportunity Jason has to grow professionally and know that he will continue to stay involved as a proud alumnus of Saint Joseph's."

The 2016 Saint Joseph's graduate was a member of the Monks' golf program for two years (2014-15) and twice garnered GNAC All-Academic honors. He served as a team captain during his senior season.

"It was an honor leading the golf program here at SJC," adds Riley. "I'd like to thank Will Rothermel and the entire athletics department staff for all of their support and guidance over the last four years. I truly appreciate everything you have done to assist our athletes and enhance the golf program."

"A coach is nothing without their student-athletes," Coach Riley continues. "I want to thank you all for your effort, attitude, and commitment to the program as well as some of my best memories on the golf course."

"I would also like to give a shoutout to all SJC Golf alumni - your continued support of the program is necessary and greatly appreciated. I'll certainly miss competing alongside the student-athletes but will continue to support SJC athletics in any way I can."
