CRANSTON, RI - The Saint Joseph's College golf team sits in
fifth place with 335 team strokes after the opening round of the
2008 Great Northeast Athletic Conference Championship, hosted at
the Cranston Country Club. Andy
LeConte '09 (York, ME) shot a 76 for the day and
is tied for second with Zach Bennardo '09 (Norwich, CT) and two
strokes behind leader Robert Newcomb '09 (Quincy, MA), both of
Johnson & Wales University.
The Johnson & Wales University golf team is currently in first
place after the first round of the The Wildcats have a 13 shot lead
after carding a 307 over the par 71 course. Rhode Island College is
in second place with a 320 while UMass Dartmouth finished with a
321 on the day.
Matt Cotreau '10 (Lunenberg,
MA) is tied for 15th with 82 strokes and Steve
Sands '10 (Westbrook, ME) is in a tie for 22nd
with 87. Ranked 26th with 90 shots is Michael
Patrick '11 (Wells, ME) while
Chris Nanof '10 (Clinton, MA) is
28th after day one with 97 strokes.
Action for day two will begin at 11:15 AM on Saturday, October
25th. For the first time in conference history, an automatic bid to
the NCAA Division III Championship is on the line.
