2013 Golf Schedule Released

STANDISH, ME - The 2013 Saint Joseph's College golf schedule has been released. The Monks will compete in 11 events this season, which begins with a head-to-head match with University of Southern Maine at the Gorham Country Club on August 30th.

Saint Joseph's moves on to play in the two-day Bowdoin College Invitational at the Brunswick Golf Club on September 7th and 8th and will compete in the Maine-Farmington Invitational, which will be played at Sunday River Golf Club on September 12th.

The Maine Collegiate Championship, a two-day event hosted by Husson University at Bangor Municipal Golf Course on September 14th and 15th follows. The SJC linkers return north the next weekend to play in the 36-hole Husson University Invitational at Penobscot Valley Country Club on September 21st and 22nd.

On September 24th, Saint Joseph's will host the 11th Annual John Queenan Memorial Tournament at Point Sebago Golf Resort. The yearly tournament is named in memory of John Queenan, a 2003 graduate of Bow High School who died tragically in an automobile accident just prior to the beginning of his freshman year at Saint Joseph's.

The Monks then play in the Southern Maine Cup, which features a scramble format, at the Gorham Country Club on September 27th. Saint Joseph's will compete in the University of New England Invitational at the Arundel Country Club on October 1st and the Monks close out the regular season with an appearance in the two-day Southern Maine Fall Classic at the Gorham Country Club on October 6th and 7th.

Championship season play begins on October 20th when Saint Joseph's tees off in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Championship, a 36-hole event held at the Cranston Country Club (R.I.). The 79th Annual New England Intercollegiate Golf Association (NEIGA) Championship, another two-day event, will be played at the Captains Golf Course in Brewster, Massachusetts on October 27th and 28th.

Head Coach Jamie Smyth '92, about to begin his 10th season as the Monks' skipper, helped guide Saint Joseph's to a fourth-place finish in the Maine Championship, a sixth-place effort in the GNAC Championship, and a 34th-place performance in the NEIGA Championship last fall. The Monks return several key golfers from the 2012 squad, including two-time All-Conference honoree and 2010 GNAC Rookie of the Year Kevin Richardson (Coventry, Conn.).
