Caron & Galvin Take GNAC Weekly Honors

STANDISH, Maine – The Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) weekly accolades have been released and a pair of Saint Joseph's College golfers have been honored.

Sophomore Michael Caron (Gorham, Maine) has been selected as the GNAC Player of the Week for the third-consecutive reporting period while freshman Matt Galvin (Derry, N.H.) claims GNAC Rookie of the Week acclaim for the first time in his young career.

Caron posted his second medalist honor of the season with a 71 in the Thomas College Classic at Waterville Country Club on Sunday afternoon. It was the lowest 18-hole score of his career and best by a Monks' golfer since 2007. The top finish is the fourth of his career, as the sophomore has now recorded more medalist awards than any other Monks player over the last 15 seasons. Caron's performance helped lead Saint Joseph's to second place in Waterville.

Galvin, making his first appearance in a collegiate tournament, shot an 83 at the Thomas College Classic on Sunday. His score was the third-best on the team, which totaled a 316 card, eight strokes off the pace of champion Maine-Presque Isle.

This week's awards announcement marks the first time in eight years as a GNAC member that the Saint Joseph's golf program has captured both Player and Rookie of the Week honors in the same reporting period. With three honors this season, Caron already owns more GNAC top golfer accolades than any SJC player since 2007.

Saint Joseph's is set to host the 12th Annual John Queenan Memorial Tournament at Point Sebago Golf Resort on Tuesday. Opening tee-time is set for 9:00 AM.
