Saint Joseph's in Second after First Day of GNAC Golf Championship

GORHAM, Maine – The first round of the 2016 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Golf Championship is in the books and Saint Joseph's College sits in second with a 301 team card through 18 holes. The Monks are just one stroke off the pace in the annual event, which is being played at the Gorham Country Club and hosted by University of Southern Maine.

The Huskies are currently atop the conference leader board with a 300 card while reigning four-time GNAC champion Rhode Island College is in third (305), Worcester State University is fourth (315), and UMass.-Dartmouth is fifth (322). Johnson & Wales University (6th, 323), Suffolk University (6th, 323), Emmanuel College (8th, 324), and Albertus Magnus College (9th, 356) round out the group of competing institutions in this year's championship.

Saint Joseph's currently has three golfers in the top six overall, with sophomore Cam Letourneau (Hebron, Maine) tied for first with a 72, senior Michael Caron (Gorham, Maine) in third with a 74 card, and sophomore Adam Hachey (Winthrop, Maine) in sixth with a 74 score. Junior Brandon Labrecque (Gorham, Maine) shot an 82 and is tied for 27th and sophomore Adam Batchelder (Portland, Maine/Cheverus) is tied for 33rd with an 85 score.

Play resumes – and concludes – tomorrow at the Gorham Country Club. Opening tee-time is slated for 11:00 AM.
