Monks Claim John Queenan Memorial Title

CASCO, Maine – Saint Joseph's College registered a 322-team score to win the 19th Annual John Queenan Memorial Golf Tournament at the Point Sebago Golf Resort on Thursday afternoon.

Saint Joseph's bested Thomas College, which posted a 331 card, to win the tournament for the second-consecutive year. The Monks have now won the program's annual home tourney three times, with the first win coming in 2016, and in back-to-back years for the first time in the event's 19-year history.

University of Southern Maine (333), University of New England (338), Gordon College (343), Maine Maritime Academy (355), and UMaine-Farmington (361) also competed in the 2022 John Queenan Memorial Tournament.

UNE junior Jack Sicurella (Winthrop, Mass.) tied for the best score (77) with SJC senior Trevor Flanagan (Monmouth, Maine) and St. Joe's sophomore Drew Mathieu (Windham, Maine) and claimed Medalist honors via the tiebreaker card-off procedure after notching a par on the 18th and a birdie on the 17th.

The yearly tournament hosted by St. Joe's is named in memory of John Queenan, a 2003 graduate of Bow High School who died tragically in an automobile accident just prior to the beginning of his freshman year as a student-athlete at Saint Joseph's.

FOR THE MONKS:

  • Flanagan led the way with a 77 (37-40) score and finished tied for first
  • Mathieu also tied for first with a 77 and posted the low round – an even par 36 on the front nine – of the day
  • Senior Sean McDonough (Concord, N.H.) scored an 80 (39-41) and tied for third
  • Sophomore Alex Beecher (South Portland, Maine) carded an 88 (43-45)
  • Freshman Dante Ceppetelli (Dover, N.H.) shot a 93 (40-53)
