Men Finish Seventh with 42 Points at USM

GORHAM, ME – The Saint Joseph's indoor men's track and field team finished seventh out of nine colleges and universities with 42 points in a USM Invitational meet on Saturday. Senior Jack LaFreniere (Alton, N.H.) won the 200 meter dash (23.31) and 400 meter dash (51.85) events.

Junior Faisal Abdillahi (Lewiston, Maine) placed third in the 400 meter dash (52.43) and four Saint Joseph's runners earned points in the 600 meter run, as Connor Dufour (Augusta, Maine) placed third (1:30.55), Taidghe Hagan (Reading, Mass.) was fourth (1:35.70), Mark McCarraher (Franklin, Mass.) finished sixth (1:41.46) and Andrew Caron (Gardiner, Maine) placed seventh (1:41.72).

Also, freshman Billy Brooks (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) was ninth in the long jump (5.72m) and sophomore Joe DiSalvo (Derry, N.H.) finished 10th in the one-mile run (4:48.38).

Merrimack College won the event with 135 team points while Colby College finished as the runner-up with 107 points and Southern Maine was third with 104 points. Emmanuel College (77), Bates College (61), Assumption College (60), Maine-Farmington (5) and New England College (5) rounded out the group of participating institutions.

The men will compete in the Maine State Intercollegiate Championship at Southern Maine on Saturday at 6:00 PM.
