STANDISH, Maine – The Saint Joseph's outdoor track & field teams hosted their first annual Monks Track & Field Invitational on Saturday. The first ever meet hosted entirely by St. Joes at the SJC Athletic Complex held 15 teams from all throughout New England with more than 400 student-athletes competing. In this scored meet the Bates Bobcats took the win on the ladies' side with 299 points, well ahead of runner-up Husson University with 91.5 points. The Lady Monks placed seventh with 44 points. For the men, Southern Maine ended the day with 135 points for first, just 35 points a head of Maine-Farmington (100 points). The Monks placed fourth (80 points) behind Husson and Thomas, two teams that tied for third with 85 points.

To start the meet the Monks recognized their seniors for their dedication and leadership over the years. A few of those seniors then later went to break some school records for the Monks. Senior Troy Hendricks broke his previously held Steeplechase school record (10:19.02) with a 10:18.21 mark which also surpasses the facility record held by Southern Maine's Cody Mathewson (10:36.50, USM-St.Joe's II, April 10 2021). Senior James Benson was back smashing records, again, this time in the Triple Jump with a 12.70m mark. Junior Ashtyn Abbott put his name on the record board with a 1.94 High Jump leap which surpasses Calvin Field's '17 1.93m jump in 2014. Abbott now holds the facility record as well. The Monks also put together a record setting 4x400 Meter Relay team with a 3:36.84 mark to pass the 3:37.66 previous record.
