STANDISH, ME - Freshman Samantha
Varrell (Portsmouth, NH) has been named as the
Great Northeast Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week for the
second time this season.
For the week ending November 2nd, Varrell recorded 13 kills, 37
assists, four aces, 34 digs and one block. The freshman setter
posted a double-double effort on October 28th versus the University
of New England with 19 assists and 14 digs. She also notched 10
digs against Mount Ida College in the club's season finale on
November 1st.
The 2008 season concluded with Varrell leading the team in assists
(462), digs (226) and service aces (55). Her 4.53 assists per set
ranks as the highest single-season total since 1998.
Besides the pair of rookie honors, Varrell has been listed on the
conference honor roll four times this fall.
